When you think of fall, there are plenty of Durango, CO activities. The autumn “color show” begins early in the highest altitudes of the San Juan Mountains and works its way down as the season goes along. The drive between Durango and Ouray is breathtaking at this glorious time of year, making the Durango / Silverton train ride spectacular during this time of year.
All Aboard!! Take a ride on an historic, coal-fired, steam-powered train through the backcountry wilderness of the San Juan Mountains of Southwest Colorado and relive the sights and sounds of yesteryear. Learn about the railroad’s colorful history by visiting the D&SNGRR Museum in the Durango rail yard or the Silverton freight yard. Several different packages available. Open year round. May – October: Trains depart daily for Silverton. A full day adventure!! Late November – April: Winter trains to Cascade Canyon. 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Check schedule for dates.
Ride the train to a pumpkin patch, where you will find fun and activities for the whole family. Meet and have photos taken with Charlie Brown, Lucy, and Snoopy. Activities include live musical entertainment, games, trick-or-treating, bouncy houses, and a hay bale maze that will lead you to the pumpkin patch where kids pick the perfect pumpkin to take home.
This is a terrific way for kids to experience the train ride.
